Yerevan’s first photo studios opened in the 1980s.

“Leon” photo studio is considered to be one of the oldest photo studios g in Armenia. In the press of the time we often see the advertisements of the “Leon” photo studio, from which it seems that the photo studio operating in Tbilisi (Georgia) came to Yerevan every year to take pictures of citizens, and there were many such people in the city. According to the documentation fund of the Yerevan History Museum, one of those directions was made in April 1911. The photo studio is located in the E. Janpoladyan Theater, which operates next to the Apollo Cinema.

The first generation of photographers operating in Yerevan itself started its activity in the pre-Soviet period. Tariverdyants, Dadyants, Peshtmaljyan, Rubinyants, Kyurkchyants, Donkov, Melik-Aghamalyan, Ter-Aristakesyan were among the first to become the founders of modern Armenian photography. According to the photos taken by the latter, many of which are now preserved in the History Museum of Yerevan, they are unique specimens that reflect the old face, color, way of life of Yerevan, reincarnating the behavior and manners of the people of Yerevan.
